Webinar: How DMARC stops phishing attacks and slashes risk
If your organization is like most, you’re not using Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance—or DMARC—or not using it effectively. And yet, DMARC is one of the most effective tools for protecting your domain reputation—and for preventing certain types of domain-spoofing cyberattacks.
DMARC is a technical standard that publishes policies in your DNS record that tell recipients how to authenticate emails from your domain, so they can automatically identify and reject malicious or fraudulent email sent from your domains. Configuring DMARC correctly can be a complex process, which is part of why so many companies fail to get optimal benefits from it.
Furthermore, it requires that one or both of two other domain-authentication protocols—Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM)—be already configured properly, and this can also be difficult.
Domain protection gaps
It’s a common mistake to rely solely on SPF and/or DKIM for domain protection. They both leave gaps that can be exploited by advanced techniques, leaving you open to a variety of risks.
At an upcoming webinar, Barracuda Senior Technical Product Marketing Manager Adam Searcy and Solutions Architect Thorsten Stoeterau will provide a thorough understanding of:
- Why effective domain authentication is so important
- How SPF and DKIM fall short, including a step-by-step account of how crooks exploit gaps
- How DMARC closes those gaps to prevent domain spoofing and reduce multiple types of risk
Adam and Thorsten will also talk about how to overcome the difficulty and complexity of DMARC configuration using a modern automated DMARC tool like Barracuda Domain Protection, a component of Barracuda Email Protection.
The risks of inadequate domain protection
It’s important to understand the magnitude of the risks posed by inadequate domain authentication. Having your domain spoofed, and accounts compromised, can be catastrophic for businesses, leading to reputational damage, loss of customers, and costly lawsuits.
And of course, domain-spoofing phishing attacks—whether against your customers and partners or directed internally—can lead to costly data breaches, financial loss, and other forms of cybercrime. When properly configured, DMARC can eliminate a whole category of phishing attack risk.
If you’re responsible for managing cyber risk for your organization, then I’d urge you to attend this webinar. It’s going to be very informative about a topic that most IT pros don’t think about enough—but one that can make a huge difference in terms of multiple types of risk.
